About The District...

The Crescent Rural Fire Protection District is located in the extreme northern Klamath County surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest and bordering Deschutes County and La Pine to the north, Chemult to the south, the Deschutes National Forest to the east and Crescent and O’Dell lakes and Lane County to the west with U.S. Highway 97 as the main transportation artery running north and south through the district.  The Fire District encompasses approximately 24 square miles and our Ambulance Service Area is 874 square miles.  Crescent Oregon is nestled in the center of a tremendous recreational area that prides itself with hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, lakes and rivers, mountains and high desert.  Crescent is approximately 45 miles from Bend to the north and 100 miles from Klamath Falls to the south.

Crescent RFPD was formed in the late 1950’s with a group of dedicated community volunteers. In 1985 Crescent Fire recognized the need to provide emergency medical care to its patrons, and purchased its first ambulance.  Over the years the demand for emergency medical care has increased and today Crescent RFPD provides Fire and Life Safety with 3 Structural Fire Engines, 2 Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulances, a Rescue/Heavy Brush Vehicle, a 3,000 gallon Water Tender, a quick response Brush Attack Vehicle, and a Command/Staff vehicle out of two Fire Stations.  We are a combination Agency that once enjoyed 6 paid positions, but due to economic constraints we have had to endure staffing reductions.   Without the support of our remarkable volunteers, the communities of Crescent and Gilchrist would suffer.  Our call volume averages 200 incidents annually.

On the bright side, the District has been awarded a SAFER Grant that will fund 3 Firefighter Paramedic positions for 2 years beginning September 2010.

The District is served by a five member Board of Directors.  Our mission is to provide excellent life and property safety to the patrons and tourists of the Fire District and Ambulance Service Area we serve.  We are proud to work with our cooperators; Walker Range Forest Protection Association, USFS Crescent Ranger District/ Newberry Division, Chemult RFPD, Central Cascades Fire and EMS and La Pine RFPD not to mention the tremendous support we receive from our community businesses.  We are an Airlife-FireMed member agency.
