About The District...
The Crescent Rural Fire Protection District is located in the northern Klamath County. The District is surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest to the east and borders Deschutes County/La Pine to the north and Lane County to the west. Chemult is located to the south, Crescent and O’Dell lakes to the west, with U.S. Highway 97 as the main transportation artery running north and south through the district. The Fire District encompasses approximately 20 square miles and our Ambulance Service Area is 874 square miles. Crescent Oregon is nestled in the center of a tremendous recreational area that prides itself with hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, lakes, rivers, mountains, and high desert. Crescent is approximately 45 miles south of Bend and 100 miles north of Klamath Falls.
Crescent RFPD was formed in the late 1950’s with a group of dedicated community volunteers. In 1985 Crescent Fire recognized the need to provide emergency medical care to its patrons, and purchased its first ambulance. Over the years the demand for emergency medical care has increased and today Crescent RFPD provides Fire and Life Safety with 3 Structural Fire Engines, 2 Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulances, a 3,000 gallon Water Tender, a quick response Brush Attack Vehicle and 2 Command/Staff vehicle out of two Fire Stations. We are a combination Agency of 5 full-time paid positions, the Fire Chief, Office Administrator, and 3 Firefighter EMT/Paramedics. Without the support of our remarkable volunteers, the communities of Crescent and Gilchrist would suffer. Our call volume runs approximately 300 responses annually.
The District is served by a five member Board of Directors. Our mission is to provide excellent life and property safety to the patrons and tourists of the Fire District and Ambulance Service Area we serve. We are proud to work with our cooperators; Walker Range Forest Protection Association, USFS Crescent Ranger District/ Newberry Division, Chemult RFPD, Central Cascades Fire and EMS, La Pine RFPD, Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State Police; not to mention the tremendous support we receive from our community businesses. We are an AirLink-FireMed and a Life Flight network member agency.
